I live in downtown Milwaukee and just moved here two years ago.  The staff at West Allis Animal Hospital has always been very professional and thorough.  It makes it so nice to have a vet that treats you well.

Dr. Mentjes is the doctor to my pit and pug (Matty and Viggo).  He definitely takes time with each and does a great job explaining things.  He also has a great demeanor with the dogs.

Thank you for your great services.

Just wanted to let everyone know how much we appreciate(d) the care given to both of our dogs over the years.  They're actually better than a people doctor - get info to you either immediately or within the hour.  Wish I had a family doctor like that.  Now that we're looking for another companion we look forward to using their services once again.

West Allis Animal Hospital is the greatest!  Especially for dachshunds.  Our dogs, Anna and Smokey, have probably seen every doctor on the staff and have gotten great care.  But Dr. Carroll and her accupuncture skills have been especially valuable to us as Anna has had some back issues.  I was sceptical at first, but this treatment really works!  Do your pet a favor, and get its care at West Allis Animal Hospital!

Hi Everyone,

I have been bringing my pets to West Allis Animal Hospital since 1980 or so.

I have always been very happy with the staff, and now since my marriage, my hubby has also become familiar with Dr. Nelson, and together we met Dr. Severson and Dr. Mentjes.  They are all very skilled and knowledgable and caring and we have always been very happy with all our pet\'s care.

Through the years starting with my dog Ginger (around 1980?), and later on, our dog Jessica, our cats Smokie (18), Patches(16),and our beautiful Maine Coon,Samantha(16); they have always been compassionate and did their best to accomodate our needs at all times, and at the End, when we lost each one of those pets, they were as gentle as can be with their sick, fragile patients and their heart broken owners.

Their staff is wonderful, and their prices reasonable.

They will meet our new cat on Friday and we have every confidence she will receive the same caring, high quality care as all the others did through the years. I never hesitate to recommend them.

Hi Everyone

I have a great story to share with everyone. I am asking everyone to vote for my most favorite vet in the world. His name is Dr. Nelson. He has saved the life of many ferrets. But this time it truly is a miracle. I have a sweet foster ferret named Candy. Her name fits her so perfectly. She is so sweet and lovable my husband Mike gave her the name because of how truly lovable she really is. Candy came to me with a plugged saliva gland.

The day I received Candy from the Ferret Den she was a rescue from a another shelter and had to be rushed to West Allis Animal Hospital to be drained of a full 8cc of saliva fluid. Which made her eye bulge out and her left check was very swollen. She was a rescue found wondering the street and not in the very best neighborhood of Milwaukee. I can't even imagine her out all alone with that condition.

Well, Dr. Nelson came to the rescue and did drain it and didn't think Candy would make it very long. Dr. Nelson didn't think that surgery was the right option for her. Well it was only 2 weeks that I had Candy and she was full of saliva again. Which this time the saliva was too thick to even drain. So Dr. Nelson went to work trying to figure out how to save Candy's life. Everyday I had Candy was so hard for me not knowing if it was going to have to be her last day on earth. Dr. Nelson even tried the surgery that he thought might work for Candy on a deceased ferret but it was much to risky for Candy to have that surgery.

Then I received a phone call from Dr. Nelson saying that he thinks he might have the answer for Candy after talking with other vets, to help save Candy's life. Candy did have a minor surgery to place a tube into the plugged saliva gland which we are hoping will live a permanent hole in side of her mouth for the saliva to drain. Candy did have her tube removed today. So we will take it day by day to see if her saliva gland does plug back up. Without Dr. Nelson trying so very hard to find the right answer for Candy she would have had to be put to sleep.

I am so very grateful for Dr. Nelson and his total compassion for the love of animals. He just didn't give up on Candy even when he didn't have the right answer for her right away. He took his own time to research what was best for Candy. I thank God everyday for Dr. Nelson and his wonderful staff at West Allis Animal Hospital. They all really do care what's best for all the furry loved one's in each one's family. PLEASE,PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, VOTE FOR THE BEST ANIMAL HOSPITAL EVER. PLEASE GO TO wisn.com/alist for the best Veterinarians and vote for WEST ALLIS ANIMAL HOSPITAL. If it wasn't for West Allis Animal Hospital, Candy would not still be with me today. Please pray for Candy and West Allis Animal Hospital to Win. VOTE, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE.

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND VOTE. Mary and loveable Candy.

Dear Dr. Nelson,

Feel free to display my letter of admiration regarding the miracle you performed on one tiny ill Chihuahua. The care and attention were beyond anything anyone could ask for. You certainly will be blessed for your work.

I shall tell "everyone"about you. I will go out of my way to "brag" about you. I will vote online for the nomination for WISN.com Best Business. You truly are one of the area's BEST businesses. Thank you.

PS. I am passing out your business cards too. BRAVO`

I just wanted to let all the Staff know that I was very happy with everything from the time of I walked in to the time I left. I was at my lasts with trying to get help for my dog. I thought I was really going to have to give him up cause I didn't have the money. I was crying and didn't know what to do. I called you guys first, then something told me to come your establishment. All I would like say is, THANK YOU for everything with BRONX. I really appreciate every thing. I wouldn't have known what to do if it wasn't for all the STAFF! THANK YOU. (please let all staff see this, cause I really do appreciated everything)!

I recently had to have my dog Sheeva put to sleep. Dr. Mentjes was great. I know that is the worst part of your services, but you made it a little easier for us. Sheeva always liked Dr. Mentjes, he has a very gentle way about him. She was very uppity when people were picking at her, but she let the doc pretty much do what he wanted. I can't say enough about how happy I am with the care you have always shown for my dog. When we get another one, I want Dr. Mentjes to be her doctor. Thank you again.

I boarded my cat Jackson over the Thanksgiving weekend. I wanted to let you know how pleased I was. I think you might have given him a bath (no small feat); he smells so nice and clean. He didn't shake and howl on the way home (like the last vet). You have a definite patient for a long time. When I saw the vet; she said he could have an occasional kitty treat. Does it have to be special (because of his kidney issues), or can it be Purina, Iams, etc?
Thank you,
Theodore and Jackson
PS. I was very pleased with the total cost of the vet visit & boarding.
